What is Bellafill Treatment?
Formerly Artefill, Bellafill is a wrinkle correction procedure that is performed by Dr. Pryor or one of our trained medical staff mem. It has the power to improve the skin’s texture immediately from the first injection. So, what’s the secret? The secret lies in the Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) microspheres that are present in the bovine collagen gel. The gel is most often injected into the “nasolabial folds” or into the fine lines around the corners of the mouth. The injections will trigger the production of natural collagen in the body.
PMMA has a proven safety record and can be the catalyst behind an instantaneous facelift. This same active ingredient has also been known to be effective for artificial joints and cataracts. The Bellafill treatments should be scheduled at least six months apart for maximum effectiveness. The best results will come from small dosages at specified intervals.
What to Expect
The treatment at a medical spa will usually require one or two sessions. It is a safe and non-invasive procedure. The procedure will usually take about an hour. The grade of Bellafill will depend on the severity of the wrinkles. Grade one will require a half syringe of Bellafill. Grade five will require that two syringes be injected into the fold.
The effects of the wrinkle correction can be observed as soon as the Bellafill solution has been injected. There may be mild swelling and redness at the treatment site after the treatment, and mild bruising may also occur at the injection site. Most of the side effects will subside in approximately three to seven days. It is advisable to have an allergy test before getting an Bellafill treatment to avoid any complications.
If you have any history of allergic reactions to collagen products, you should refrain from using Bellafill treatment. It should not be used around the mouth or for lip augmentation either. Collagen must be removed if the procedure needs to be reversed. For the best results, choose a board certified physician.
How Long Does It Last?
The results of Bellafill will last for five to 10 years. Bellafill is mainly comprised of bovine collagen, and this is what keeps the skin taut and full. The biocompatible microspheres give the look a lasting effect because they are not absorbed into the body. The procedure will take between 15 and 45 minutes to complete. If it’s done properly, the results will be long-term.
